Contemporary Bedroom with Black Marble and Natural Wood Touches

Hello friends! We’re back after a very long spring hiatus!

This week we’re inspired by marble and wood… and monochrome, because what would Home Design Sleuth be without monochrome?! Our inspiration designer bedroom comes from JDP Interiors, a Los Angeles based design firm. We were really taken by the simplicity and calm of this bedroom that looks liveable, but also very expensive! Luckily, it doesn’t have to be expensive, as we’ve sourced some beautiful alternatives from the high street to help you recreate this look on a budget!

As always, feel free to click on any number or hyperlink to purchase your favourite items!

Finding a good alternative bed at a high street price proved the most difficult for us this time around. We absolutely loved the statement headboard on the inspiration bed and would have loved to find you the same exact one on the high street, but no such bed was found! Instead, we’ve provided you with a few nice alternative beds that we think would work really well in recreating this look. Our favourite bed is probably the least expensive one (numbered 3)! Which is your favourite? Let us know!

  1. Hazelwood Home Matilda Upholstered Bed Frame, Double, £349
  2. West Elm Grid-Tufted Upholstered Tapered Leg Bed, Stone (Twill), King, £899
  3. Wrought Studio Cortinas Upholstered Bed Frame, King, £310.99
  4. Feather&Black Cameron Bedstead, King, £559

We think JDP Interiors were so clever to put a simple wooden bench at the end of the bed! It’s not uncommon to see benches on the end of beds, but they are usually upholstered. The wooden bench really makes such a big statement and without it, the room would have a very different feel – more luxury, less natural simplicity! We’ve sourced quite a few bench options for you above at different price points.

  1. Swoon Editions Anise Bench, Light Oak, £349
  2. Radius 3-Seater Solid Oak Dining Bench, £236
  3. Ikea Skogsta Bench, Acacia, £40
  4. Jenson Bench, Solid Oak and Dark Grey, £199
  5. Swoon Editions Ellis Bench, Mango Wood, £329
  6. Cox&Cox Bergen Oak Bench, £275

We love that the inspiration bedroom has black marble that doesn’t feel over-the-top! When looking for alternative tables, we looked for bedside tables that were either black marble or had a luxurious feel. Our favourite pick from the above is the Swoon Editions table (numbered 3) because the marbling is very clear and the gold hardware harmonises well with the brown tones of the rug and bench.

  1. Nestor Black Marble Square Side Table On A Metal Base, £236
  2. West Elm Audrey Bedside Table, Charcoal, £399
  3. Swoon Editions Biella Bedside Table, Black Marble, £249

No you didn’t miss anything – the inspiration room didn’t actually have any bedside table lamps, but it did have bedside wall fixtures. As we’d like for those of you who are leasing your flat to get your deposits returned to you, we thought finding alternative lamps would be the better option. We really wanted to keep the black/ gold theme going, so above are our favourite gold, black and/or marble lamps currently selling on the high street.

Alongside the bench, the rug pulls a lot of weight in turning this room from monochrome Armani luxury to a more balanced and liveable designer room. We were really taken by the brown and orange tones as well as the indigenous pattern of the inspiration rug and that is what we tried to find for you on the high street. Let us know what you think!

A designer room will always have a statement ceiling light and this room is no exception! We’ve searched the high street high (haha) and low and found these beautiful pendant alternatives. We love that they are all a bit funky like the inspiration light, and think that any of these lights would make great statement lights in the recreated designer bedroom!

Last, but definitely not least, are the finishing touches! Happily there aren’t too many decorative accessories in this bedroom, which helps it keep it’s simple and clean aesthetic and also helps you keep your pockets full! We’ve found some wonderful designer alternatives for you above. As you will very well know from our past posts, we’re big fans of and have sourced our wall art from them for this post. We’ve also found some very nice items from John Lewis and Ikea. Which item could you live without, and which is your favourite?
  1. Carpathian Mountains Poster, 50x70cm, £21.95
  2. Chinati: The Vision of Donald Judd Hardcover, 3 Sep 2010, £60

  4. Ikea Blanda Matt Serving Bowl, Bamboo, £7.50

Until next time! x
